Dillon Business Association
Minutes of Board Meeting
Thursday, January 12, 2012
The meeting of the Board of Directors of the Dillon Business Association was called to order at 8:59 am on January 12, 2012, at the Lake Dillon Theatre offices.
Call to Order – Roll Call
In attendance were:  Bill Falcone, Chris Alleman, Travis Holton, Dane Peterson, and Erkko Alm.  Absent: Kelly Coughlin, Nick Rauser, Joe McIntyre, Dennis Krueger and Haley Gelber.  Also in attendance was Katie McDermott.
Annual Meeting
The following board members’ seats are up for election this year:
Haley Gelber, Travis Holton, Nick Rauser, Dennis Krueger, Mike O'Brien and Kelly Coughlin.  The following people were suggested as nominees: Steve Allie (Colorado Tents and Events), Bonnie Pierce (Bonnie Q BBQ), and Michelle Teakamp (KYSL Radio).  Nick Rauser has agreed to run again.
There was a discussion regarding the details of the meeting/mixer.
Government Liaison
Travis Holton will contact Joe Wray to set up a meeting to discuss what the town is and is not paying for with regard to concerts.  After this the board will meet to set a 2012 budget.
Events
Liquor licenses: the state has noted that both the DBA and the LDFPA have liquor licenses at the same site (amphitheater).  This is a violation.  The DBA is considering applying for a full year liquor license and allowing the LDFPA to use the site/license as a sub of the DBA.  The cost for a one year license is $1,000 (a savings from 10 licenses) and alcohol could be served by the DBA at any of the amphitheater events.  All board members would have to be finger printed and have a background check done.
Travis Holton suggested that we need someone to manage all of the liquor-related tasks, such as ordering, stocking, etc.
Farmers Markets
There was a brief discussion as to whether the DBA will provide a booth at the 2012 Farmers Market.  No decision was made.
Membership
The following businesses were identified as targets for 2012: Wilderness Sports, the Pour House, Einstein Bagel, Action Sports and Jimmy Johns.

Budget
Until the board knows what the town will and will not pay for, it will not be possible to create a new budget.

It was decided that sponsorships will be an important way to subsidize the concert costs for the summer.  (Lakeside Bowl will be offered a concert in 2012 at no cost to make up for the lack of attendance at their concert in 2011.)   Ideas for selling more sponsorships included lowering the prices and paying a couple of people to sell sponsorships on commission.  A 10-20% commission was discussed.

A few budgetary ideas were discussed: $400 for miscellaneous equipment purchases, schedule more Santa appearances at the bonfires, don’t offer movies at the Festival of Lights, better advertising for the concerts in the Summit Daily News and acts with better name recognition.

The Summit of Bluegrass and Brews will be a one day event on June 23rd.  This will mean fewer rooms for brewers, omit the Friday night band and the first band on Saturday, replacing that band with a small band in the tasting venue.  As the event will be shorter, fewer volunteers will be needed and therefore fewer T-shirts.  There are enough wristbands, cups, etc. for this year but there will be a need for posters.

Festival of Lights
Awards party will be at Adriano’s at 6:00 on the 18th.  Winners are:

Business:
Adriano’s Bistro
Pug Ryan’s
Arapahoe Cafe
Residential:
Bobbie and Daryl Morse
Paul and Joan Fretz
Flo and Ben Raitano

Next year a bulk mailing should be sent out in October to notify businesses and residents of the contest and prizes.  Also should recruit people who need to earn court mandated service hours to hang lights next year.

New Business

The Dillon Town Council Candidates Forum will be held March 21, at 7:00pm at the Dillon Town Hall.  The board agreed to provide a moderator and refreshments for the event.

Next Meeting
The next meeting will be on February 9th at 8:45am at the Lake Dillon Theatre offices in La Riva.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:14am.
